The House Mouse moves quietly between rooms, sleeps beneath furniture and appears beside the Crown whenever something has gone missing.

Management initially treated this as coincidence.

That position became difficult to maintain after the mouse was found in the bed, behind the curtains and stationed beside the food cabinet during restricted hours.

Its soft sock body makes it suitable for carrying, cuddling, kicking and leaving directly in the path of barefoot staff before sunrise.

The Crown calls this redeployment.

There are credible reports of catnip concealed inside.

The mouse has declined to comment.

Repeated questioning has failed to establish where it came from, why it keeps returning or what happened to the matching sock.

It has now been granted permanent residence.
